Who is an AIPP Accredited Professional Photographer?

If you are a photographer you may be eligible to become an Accredited Professional Photographer (APP). Accredited Professional membership is the pinnacle of AIPP membership and Accredited Members received.

Becoming an Accredited Professional Photographer of the AIPP comes with many benefits:

To become an Accredited Photographer applicants must meet the requirements:

  • You have invested time and resources into developing a photography business as an owner or professional employee while earning an income from photography for at least two years.
    Your income should support and sustain your photography business. We do not stipulate a minimum income, nor that your photography business has to be the sole source of your income.
  • Provide documentation to support your application as an Accredited Professional. More details are in the form below.
  • Submit a portfolio of images to our independent folio assessment panel and you must reach the appropriate pass standard. Click here to view the image guidelines and folio submission tips.
  • Agree to comply with the AIPP Code of Professional Practice
  • Agree to be bound by the APP Membership Terms & Conditions
  • Hold an ABN number and GST registration if your business turnover exceeds the statutory minimum registration level
  • Hold comprehensive public liability insurance and OH&S liability insurance if/as deemed appropriate for your business needs
  • You agree to display the Accredited Logo on your business documents
  • You agree to comply with any legal requirements and possess any licenses required for the operation of your business, including those from the Environmental Protection Authority, local, state and federal authorities, Occupational Health and Safety requirements, and Workers' Compensation requirements.
  • Agree to take part in the continual development of your business skills and craft

Investment

  • Accredited Membership is $39 per month.
  • A $100 fee is applicable for the folio submission which directly compensates folio assessors.

  • Please ensure this is correct. You will be sent more information regarding your application and folio review at this address.
  • Validation Documentation

  • Applicants who are not operating as business practitioners, (e.g. studio employees, photo journalists and employees of government departments) you will be excused from this requirement. If you supply an ABN whose registration date was within the preceding 2 years, you may be asked to provide further documentary evidence of your business practices within the preceding 2 years.

      Acceptable references must be in a written letter format and include: referee’s full name and contact details, date reference supplied, details including, but not limited to, period of time known to you, capacity in which they know you or have utilised your services and mention of your professionalism during your association. Recommended Referees include past and present clients, print suppliers, studio employers or similar.
    • Accepted file types: pdf, jpg, Max. file size: 64 MB.
      An invoice is not acceptable, you must send in a valid Certificate of Currency saved as a PDF. Applicants who are not operating as business practitioners, (e.g. studio employees, photojournalists and employees of government departments) will be asked to provide information about any public liability insurance that covers their work as a professional.
    • If you believe that you do not require insurance for your business, please briefly explain why that is.

      Please provide the following in a word document or saved to PDF: An acceptable Statement of Intent must be in a written letter format on your letterhead (showing full name, contact details, ABN and date written) and include: how you intend to practice as an Accredited Professional Photographer or Video Producer, in particular whether you will work from a studio or from home, whether you will be full time or part time and which genres you will service.

      Upload details, if applicable, of your attendance at any approved tertiary education course. Please scan and provide as PDF.

      Upload details, if applicable, of any self-education you have undertaken in the last three years. Please provide in a word document or saved to PDF.
    • * Items 1, 2, 3 and 4 above are mandatory. We cannot proceed with your application without this information. Documents are provided for the purpose of evaluation, and completion of any or all of these requirements does not necessarily demonstrate that you have been practicing as a professional. However, their absence may also be taken into account in validating your application. We prefer all documents supplied and uploaded as PDFs.

    • Assessment Payment

      Your assessment fee is used to pay a panel of expert assessors. On completion of your application you may establish fees to become an Accredited Member if successful, and if unsuccessful - don't be discouraged, join us as a General Member and try again in future.
